TOMORROW WILL BE YESTERDAY!

I close my eyes and as I slowly open them like the budding of a flower to behold the garden of generation,I was surprised to realize that time has grown wings and has flown beyond reach. Was it not last week I was told he uttered just 4 words,'Let There Be Light' and it became the first day of the week, seperated the sky from the water and it existed as the second day, gathered the water into ocean to have dry land and named the dry land 'earth' and the water 'seas' while the earth was told to bring forth grass and fruits and was pleased to name it the third day,did you know he had to make signs like the sun to mark sunset to sunset?,the moon to proclaim new moon to new moon?,and stars to identify the seasons to actually become the fourth day?,created birds on earth and sea creatures in the water and said they should multiply to have the fifth day,was it not like two days ago that he created all sorts of animals on earth and made man alongside a woman and made them masters over all life upon the earth and in the sea and proclaimed it the sixth day?,and after all he did,he rested on the seventh day and called it the sabbath which he made a holy day, creation of centuries past just seems like last week and I seem not to understand where time is flying to.
Now I tell you about Ziryab (789-857 AD) who was a Persian polymath: a poet, musician, singer, cosmetologist, fashion designer, celebrity, trendsetter, strategist, astronomer, botanist, geographer and former slave. Most people have never heard of Ziryab, yet at least two of his innovations remain to this day: he introduced the idea of a three course meal (soup, main course, pudding) and he introduced the use of crystal for drinking glasses (previously metal was the primary material). He introduced asparagus and other vegetables into society, and made significant changes and additions to the music world. He had numerous children, all of whom became musicians, and spread his legacy throughout Europe. He could perhaps be considered an ancient Bach.
The list of societal changes Ziryab made is immense – he popularized short hair and shaving for men, and wore different clothes based on the seasons. He created a pleasant tasting toothpaste which helped personal hygiene (and longevity) in the region, and also invented an underarm deodorant. He also promoted bathing twice daily. Oh my God! Its so long a while yet it seems we had all these figured out ourselves just because Ziryab can no longer speak and time has faded him out.
Its no longer news in Nigeria,In the year 1914 when she became a british colony as the british gradually extended their control over her,but here we stand today doing away with the flying time and yet reminiscing like we all were there when all that happened centuries past beats like a drum in our hearts,Let's not forget that all we do now is the story that will one day narrate our history as we are all part of a spherical world. Wish I could saddle myself on the wings of time but I am not to remain forever just like its the destiny of time to keep flying. Let not time over-ride the good in us,remember that yesterday was today and soon tomorrow will be yesterday.
